The business of PSR was founded as a partnership between the Parkinson and Spencer families in 1800 for the mining of fireclay and the manufacture of fireclay products. In 1921 the company Parkinson and Spencer Ltd was established, the name being changed to Parkinson-Spencer Refractories Ltd in 1976. The 20th century saw the company progress from the manufacture of fireclay bricks and blocks through to specialisation in bonded refractories and engineered products used exclusively in the manufacture of glass. Based in Halifax, UK, PSR is now an internationally recognised manufacturer of glassworks refractories and forehearth systems.
